Do you have any suggestions for decorating in a recession?  YES WE DO is the response I give people who ask.

1. MOVE ART AROUND – I love to do this just for a new perspective.  Sometimes I even like the new location so much better.

2.  SWAP YOUR ACCESSORIES – In addition to placing your accessories in different rooms for a fresh new look, try replacing some of your small accessories for 1-2 larger scale pieces.  This creates more of a wow factor and gives you an automatic focal point.

3.  CREATE AN ORIGINAL PIECE OF ART – You can do it!  Channel you inner Picaso and try your hand at an abstract or geometric piece.  Imagine the fun you’d have and the bragging rights you’ll earn creating a wonderful conversation piece.

4.  EDIT WHAT YOU HAVE FOR A CLEANER MORE STREAMLINED LOOK– Sometimes all your home needs is room to breathe.  Are there things that can be donated or thrown away?

5.  SHOP AT SECOND HAND SHOPS TO FIND TREASURES THAT CAN BE TRANSFORMED WITH YOUR PERSONAL TOUCH.

6.  ASK YOUR LOCAL CARPET STORE ABOUT PURCHASING REMNANTS – You will save a significant amount of money this way.  Remnants can be large enough to cover an entire room.  They come in a variety of sizes and styles and can be bound if used as an area rug.

7.  PURCHASE  MISSED TINTS OR OOPS PAINT  – Most retailers who carry paint, often have a section of paints that didn’t quite match what a customer intended.  If you’re not married to a particular color, this could be a great way to score a gallon of paint (sometimes even a 5 gal. size) for your next painting project.

8.  UPDATE PILLOWS WITH TASSELS OR TRIM – Trim is a great way to decorate a tired pillow.  There are tons of color choices and ideas, from beads to tassels and more.

 9.  FIND SOMETHING TO REPURPOSE? – What can you repurpose in your home? Here’s a wine rack turned towel holder.

10. BRING IN FRESH FLOWERS AND LIVE PLANTS  – They soften corners and angles in a room and bring mother nature inside.
