From Paint consultations to furnishing homes, and providing window treatments  we meet you where you are in your design process.

Paint consultation

I just ordered tons of paint samples for a kitchen project and I can’t wait to share them with my client tomorrow.  I’m told that the original project was put on hold after a few failed attempts at finding the right shade.  Hopefully, we can reignite this project and find just what the client is looking for.  Since this is a popular dilemma, I thought I’d share a few thoughts about choosing paint colors.

Hmmmmm so many beautiful colors, which one will be the perfect fit?

Green tones?

Or Gold ones?

There are so many factors to consider when choosing paint colors.  Here are a few things to think about:

  •  Lighting effects the color at different times of the day.  Make sure you pay attention to how the colors look in the daylight and evening hours.
  •  Will you spend a great deal of time in the space being painted?  Try to choose colors that you won’t tire of too quickly (trendy colors for instance have a short life span and are better served on accent walls or with accessories).
  •   If you want to go bold, however try choosing a room that you don’t use on a daily basis, or you spend a limited amount of time in ( formal dining room, home gym).
  • Which direction is the room facing?  Does it get direct sunlight, or not so much?  Cool blues and greens are great for cooling rooms that get direct sunlight (sun room).  Yellows and warmer tones can warm up cooler areas of the home where natural sunlight is missing.
  •  Does the paint choice have a good LRV or light reflecting value?  This is important especially in a room with limited natural light.
  • On a paint strip the middle tones are the most muted or neutral.
  • Choose ceiling tones 2 shades lighter than the wall color if the ceiling is less than 9ft.
  • choose ceiling tones 2 shade deeper than the wall color if the ceiling is higher than 9ft.

I’m also working on a project that requires Space planning, and Selecting home furnishings for several rooms.

These are just a few pieces I’m proposing

I wonder is they’ll like this sectional?

Or the two sofas?

These light fixtures will create nice mood lighting in the space.

I can just picture some juicy apples in here

Simply put Here’s what I usually do:

Use my resources of vendors to shop the plan (furniture, fabric, lighting, accessories, flooring etc.)

Create floor plans (using space planning software), which gives my clients a 3 dimensional rendering of how their space will look.

I then line up my talent and execute the design plan.

I have recently learned about a few cool sites online that help me create design concepts via electronic mood boards. I just love them!

This board was created by Olioboard and reflects a master suite concept I’m proposing.

It’s a great source for clients to use too, and saves them from having to cut pictures out of  magazines when they come across an inspirational room or idea.

The membership is free and you can create to your hearts content.

You should go over and check them out, but I have to warn you they can be addictive! 🙂

Try olioboard.com

mydeco.com and if you’re into fashion,

polyvore.com is great.  This is where my daughter hangs out and gets inspiration for her fashion blog.  They do have an interior design category too though.

Finally, I’m doing a few projects for custom window treatments.

Do stay tuned for pictures of how these projects turn out.
