You’ll love this simple yet elegant design tip from Caitlin!

With the holidays quickly approaching, it’s almost time to start pulling out the decorations that were packed away last year.  Traditional holiday decorations come in an assortment of reds and greens.  This holiday season, break the rules and display a modern accent in your home.  This clear vase features twigs that can be collected in your front yard or at a park.  The sparsely décor glass ornaments add the holiday flavor.  If you love color, decorated or tinted ornaments could be added to the branches instead.  In this simple DIY project, I’ll give you the steps to complete this accent to add to your home this coming December.

Materials needed:

  • 1 glass vase
  • 1 bag of clear glass marbles http://www.beverlys.com/round-luster-mini-marbles-clear/
  • Various sizes of clear glass or colored ornaments
  • Various sizes of branches
  • Steps:10-15 minutes to assemble
    1. Place the clear glass marbles in a clear vase.  The marbles also help the branches to remain in place.
    2. Place the branches in the marbles and arrange them with varying heights.  Make sure there are branches extending upwards and outwards.
    3. Hang the clear or colored ornaments on the branches.  Place the bigger ornaments on thicker branches.

It’s that simple to create a standout piece in your home for the holidays.  Within 15 minutes, you’ll have a new holiday focal piece to display to guests.

Here are a few more ideas for using elements from nature.

I love the simplicity and rustic look of a tree branch with holiday bulbs suspended from it.  Try this look over your bed or above a window.  If you prefer a more contemporary look, try spray painting the branch a really fun color and coordinate the bulbs to tie the look together.

Here is an example of wildly fun colors

Another simple yet elegant touch-Glue leaves to the exterior of glass vases in varying heights.  Imagine 5-6 on a fireplace mantel or gracing the center of your holiday table.
