Holiday Mantel ideas by Imani
My favorite part of the holidays has got to be all the decorations. From going downtown and seeing the displays in the shop windows, to gathering with family to create your own display around the home.
The holidays are an ideal time to release your inner interior designer. One area that I always decorate in my home is the mantel.
Given its prime location the mantel really has to be something special and reflect the personalities of the family that lives in the house. For example, ever since I was little each of my family members have had their own stocking.
These stocking’s never change. I fear the day that my 19 year old Disney Pluto stocking can no longer hang on the mantle because it will be like losing a piece of Christmases past.
Therefore, the mantel in my home always is a festive mix of mismatched personal stockings, lighted garland, and Christmas cards from Friends and family.
While I know that ours lacks any traditional cohesiveness, I think it represents our family as a whole quite nicely. It shows how individuality comes together to create and beautify the whole.
For a more put together, and cohesive look, try these examples by Midwest Living to help inspire your holiday piece.
Start with what you have
The easiest mantel decorations grow out of what’s already there (or what you have elsewhere around the house). Here, a mirror, heirloom clock, tarnished silver pieces and stacked books get dressed up for the holidays with simple greens and pinecones.

Make It Shine
“Group a variety of mercury class and silver ornaments, votive holders and other accents to create a mirror-like display, especially pretty at night when the candles shimmer off the reflective surfaces. A wreath of fern frons adds sophistication”

Clearly Easy
“Glassware can double as holiday décor when matched with ornaments, ribbons and more. Collect clear glass objects such as vases, glasses, bowls, and candlesticks. “Plant” a wine glass in a clay pot. Group everything together and vary the heights (Turn some upside down to act as bases for others). Fill with ornaments, pinecones, branches, greens ribbons and candles, all in coordinated colors. “
Is your mantel cohesive or is it a reflection of collections over the years? Both ways are absolutely wonderful! Do make sure that your mantel represents what’s important to you.
I found another great idea to share from pinterst. If you’re looking for Fabulousness consider this look. I really love how the feathers, tall branches and lighting give this vignette a rich and elegant presence.
