Home for the Holidays: A Vintage Christmas

Post by Caitlin..After a stressful week of finals, I’m looking forward to a relaxing break at home.  Our home was decorated and ready for the holidays when I arrived.  This year, I decided to pick out one of my favorite decorations in our home.  We have two Christmas trees.  The main one is placed in the living and we have a smaller, skinnier tree for our study.  I love this tree because it is unique.  All of the ornaments hung on it are from older relatives or from the 1970s and 1980s.  Each ornament has a story behind it.  Standing in front of my dad’s old books, this tree has a vintage Christmas theme.

Below are some of the ornaments we’ve collected over the years.  The two in the middle are from grandparents and my sister’s grade school photo from the 80s hangs towards the bottom.

The Grover ornament is from the 70s.  My mom has a collection of the Sesame Street characters hanging because it was my sister’s favorite TV show growing up.

Big red, white, and green bulbs are also a classic way to add a vintage touch to your tree.

This house is placed on the fireplace mantle in our study.  These were my great grandmother’s.  My mom recently found them and now incorporates them into our Christmas décor.  It is also the perfect way to display old memories.

You can use vintage pieces and transform them into decorations.  Below, this person used a typewriter as a decoration.
