With Christmas only weeks away, time is slipping to buy those last minute gifts for loved ones.  If you’re buying for someone who has everything, be creative this season.  Homemade gifts are an easy, and often cheaper, alternative to spending hours in the mall searching for the perfect gift.  I’ll show you some unique DIY gifts to give your friends and family so that this Christmas your gift will stand out above the rest.

For Foodies

Do you know someone who enjoys baking or just loves food in general?  Here is an alternative to presenting a plate of cookies as a small gift.  Place ingredients into a mason jar and add a label containing the dish and the recipe.  Your loved one can simply put the ingredients in the bowl and bake your recipe.

Wine Connoisseurs

Gifting wine is always a popular idea during the Holidays.  Since your loved one might already be receiving bottles of wine, give them wine accessories to enjoy.  This wine glass below is unique and functional.  Paint the bottom of the wine glass with chalkboard paint and your recipient can spell out his or her name.  This way, glasses won’t get mixed up.

Wine bottle stoppers can always come in handy.  You can customize a stopper as a gift by picking out a small charm and super gluing it to a cork stopper.  Depending on the charm you choose, it can really add a personal touch.  Below, this person added a spool and thread for their stopper.  This would be great for someone who sews.

WALL ART

Monograms are commonly seen as a decorative piece in homes.  They can be a great focal piece and individualize a room.   This season, try to spice up a monogram letter of your loved one’s first or last name for a gift.  There are many ways your could alter a plain letter but one way is to add glitter.  This would be a good gift for a teenage girl.  All you need is a plain letter and a color of glitter of your choosing.  Add glue and sprinkle the glitter and you have an embellished monogram as a gift.

DAINTY CANDLES

Candles are another popular gift for the Holidays.  Skip the generic candle stores and make your own for a gift.  Go antique shopping to find inexpensive and unique teacups or jars.  Next, melt down old existing candles or buy new candle wax.  Add the wick and then pour the wax into your teacup.  Check out the many detailed step-by-step directions on the web for more clarification.

PICTURE THIS

Do you have old family photographs stored away that you haven’t looked at in years?  These are great memories to bring out and give to a family member for a gift.  Find creative ways to display these timeless photographs.  Display the pictures using clothespins and a wooden frame.  It’s a new way to display something old.  Family members will love to see the old pictures and will have no problem finding a place to hang the frame in their home

CAFFEINE ADDICTS

For someone who loves coffee or tea, a mug could be a useful gift.  Add personality to it by decorating it yourself.  All you need is some porcelain paint and a steady hand.  Have fun with this one! Your design doesn’t have to be perfect.  If you’re uncomfortable free handing it, use a stencil like the second picture.
