Is your Guest Room Ready?

The holidays are here and guests are coming.  Is your guest room ready?  I usually go out of my way to make sure my guests feel comfortable and welcomed when they visit.  I want the room to smell nice, have a few snacks to nibble on and I add extra blankets and towels for a confortable stay.  Here are just a few tips, to get your guest room ready for those who visit.

  • Wrap presents in similarly themed or colored papers that match the guest room.  (a small gift box with chocolates, nuts and wine make a great gift and serve as something for your guests to enjoy during their visit.)
  • Provide a Tray of potpourri or candles for a fragrant atmosphere.
  • Fresh flowers create a beautiful atmosphere and invites a little of the outside inside.
  • Mirrors add a convenience for guests.  Make sure they have one, even if it’s a hand held one.
  • Place your best linens on the bed and spray the sheets with lavender linen spray to promote a peaceful sleep.
  • Store extra pillows, blankets and towels nearby.
  • Add a collage of vintage frames painted the same color to the wall as a focal point or create a collage of family pictures.
  • Is there a place to sit?  Adding a small chair in the room is helpful for putting on shoes or for placing small items.
  • Magazines for reading.
  • Dvd’s for watching movies (assuming there’s room for a tv in the room)

Tips:

Save toiletries from hotel stays to keep for the guest room.

Buy mini cocktails to create a mini bar.

Try spending the night in the guest room.  Feel it out.  Does it feel comfortable to you?  Is it too hot, too cold?  Should you add or remove anything in the room before guests arrive?

What ideas can you share for ensuring a comfortable stay?

Caution:  These tips may encourage longer visits.  🙂
