Caitlin shares some great tips for decorating with holiday cards (source: marthastewart.com)

Have you ever received beautiful Christmas cards from your friends and family, but didn’t want to throw them away when the holiday season was over?  This can lead to stacks of unused cards building up over time.  Instead of collecting these holiday cards, why not make use of them this holiday season when decorating your home.  I’ll show you some simple ways to incorporate old holiday cards, thus, turning something old into new.

A simple way to display Christmas cards is buy a frame or board where you can pin cards.  Hang this display on a wall and it could add a nice dose color to your room

Clothespins are another element to use when hanging cards.  You could take plain

With these newly decorated clothespins, you can hang cards along a string.  It’s a new spin on using clothespins for drying clothes.  Clothespins and string are an inexpensive way to display old cards.

If you have Christmas cards that are unique and are too beautiful to not display, place them on a mantel.  You could also frame the cards to add decoration to a table.

A lot of families choose to include a photo in their Christmas cards.  Sometimes it’s hard to display these great photos after Christmas because the picture includes happy wishes for the holidays.  To save these family pictures, you could cut them up and turn them into ornaments.

This year, there’s no need to buy gift tags for the presents you’re giving.  You can use old Christmas cards.  By using decorative or regular scissors, you can cut shapes and images of the front of an old Christmas card.  Simply punch a hole in the corner, add ribbon, and you have a homemade gift tag.

The trees or “Happy Holidays!” could be cut out of the card below.  Both would make charming gift tags.

Now it’s time to dig out those old Christmas cards you’ve been saving for years and create something new.  Family and friends will be flattered to see you’ve incorporated their cards into your home during the holidays. Good luck!
