SUNNY WITH A SLIGHT OVERCAST- DECORATING WITH YELLOW AND GRAY
Caitlin shares her insight on decorating with two wonderful colors Yellow and Gray,
Gray and yellow. For some, this is an unlikely pair. Together, gray and yellow create a perfect harmony between a neutral and a bright hue giving the appearance of cloudy skies with hints of sunlight. Gray tends to create a sophistication of its own but, when combined with yellow, there is an element of surprise and charm. Although it seems simple to just add gray and yellow to your home, there are a couple of ways you can play each color up or down.
Yellow as an Accent
If you’re looking to highlight yellow accessories or fabrics, use the gray as the neutral background. Create a gray canvas for the yellow accents. This room uses gray and other neutrals to allow for the yellow lamp shades and frame to pop. You can even note some yellow being picked up in the chair pillows and side tables.
Want to subtly add yellow to your room? Pillows and other accessories are a great solution.
Don’t be afraid to use yellow patterns instead of the solid color. Here are two great patterns to use.
Gray as an Accent
If you’re feeling extra bold, use mostly yellow in your decorating. To downplay the brightness and give the eye a rest, use gray for your accent.
Here are some great grey patterns to use.
Mixing Both
Gray and yellow look great when mixed together in patterns on chairs, lamps, and pillows. A yellow pillow does not have to be completely separate from a gray one. FInd room for both in the same piece. In this case, the room uses wallpaper and pillows featuring both gray and yellow.
Again, here are patterns that implement gray and yellow all at once.
Chance of Clear Skies
You don’t have to limit yourself to yellow and gray when decorating with this theme. More colors can be subtly added into the decor. Blue would work as an additional accent because it is a calm color. Yellow and gray would still be the focal point with bits of blue added to the look.
