Spring is almost here! Yes, yes I know it’s still February and a lot of us are still marching around in heavy coats and boots.  I’m also aware that Punxsutawney Phil, America’s most trusted groundhog, saw his shadow it means we have six more weeks of cold ahead, but I believe it is never too early to get your home ready for springtime. Check out these five tips for getting ready for spring and I promise you’ll be in a sunnier mood in no time!

Spring Is In Bloom: Nothing says spring time like flowers in bloom. I know everyone gets excited to see the little pops of color on plants that signal the end of winter, so why not bring that happiness inside a little early? Flowers set around the house are the easiest way to liven up a room and give your home the look and smell of spring. If you want to look of beautiful flowers, but not the up keep, silks are always a viable option and your guests will never know the difference.

Lighten Up: Another way to prep your home for spring is to pick out a new spring color palette for the rooms in your home! Out with the heavy dark fabrics of winter and in with the light airy textures and colors that any room look like it belongs in a beach house. Great colors that scream springtime are pale yellows and greens, bright blues, pinks and oranges. If you’re not exactly sure which colors will look best in your rooms I suggest consulting a color wheel. Colors opposite on the wheel tend to complement each other well.

Spring Cleaning: I know you probably saw this one coming, but spring cleaning is often a necessary evil.  Let’s be honest, do you really need those containers full of clothes or gadgets you haven’t touched since 2001? Trust me, you’ll be glad you did some de-cluttering when you discover that “super cool one of a kind” piece at the warm weather craft shows.

Patio Love: I honestly cannot think of a better way to prepare for spring then by cleaning off your patios furniture and remixing the space for the upcoming season. Great outdoor space is essential for enjoying the warm weather. It is also a great time to experiment with a look you might not typically use inside your home. Stripes, floral prints, bright color, think of you outdoor space as the extra room you never knew you had!

Plan a Trip: One of the best ways to get inspired is by traveling. It’s the most literal way to broaden your design horizons. So hop on your favorite travel site and plan a well-deserved trip to any place, be it near or far!  Not only will you get some time to relax but hotels are great places to draw inspiration for your own home. Do you like that lamp or comforter in your hotel room? Ask the concierge where it was purchased; chances are they will be glad to direct you to the designer.
