Color Fabulous – A Master Suite gets a “Refresh”
Can color really change the way you feel in a space? We think so.
Every Friday for the next several weeks, we will share posts that are related to color.
First up is a master suite “refresh“. A beautiful space tucked away in a quiet serene rural haven in Illinois. Color and a few accessories helped to breathe new life into a master bedroom. Check out the slide show at the end of the post to see how it turned out.
Here’s the Room’s Journey
What the client wanted: A master bedroom “refresh” – A room that would inspire relaxation and provide an open and airy feeling.
“Refresh” Recommendations
New paint, lighting, carpet, window treatments, bedding and custom pillows, were the main elements used to support the “mood” the client desired.

What we did:
Refreshed The Paint – Since the client liked soft neutral walls as the primary color, we recommended enhancing one wall with an accent color. If a room is missing a focal point, a good way to create one is by using paint. We created a feature wall using a contrasting paint color behind the bed.
Replaced the carpet – The existing purple carpet competed with our design plan (light and airy space). We recommended a lighter neutral tone which opened the room up tremendously.
Updated the bedding – Custom bedding can provide your room with a luxurious look and feel.
As an alternative, you can also achieve a custom look without breaking the bank. Opt for a combination ready made bedding set, accompanied with a few custom made pillows. Adding trim and tassels to the pillows and even the bedding set can help to create a one of a kind design.
Updated a vintage chair with a vibrant tapestry
Added soft treatments A great way to get a custom look using ready-made curtains is to buy 2 sets of panels in contrasting colors. Use one set to lengthen the bottoms of the other set for added flair.
Created a nice nook in the bay window – we added a window seat cushion and loads of pillows for comfort. We selected durable fabrics that are stain resistant and designed for indoor/outdoor use.
The bathroom
To “unite” two adjoining rooms, carry one of the colors from one room into the adjoining space.
In this case the wall color from our feature wall(master bedroom) was carried into the bathroom area. It looked beautiful against the light cabinetry.
Accents were added – We wanted to mimic the colors of sand, and sea to contribute to our light and airy mood. Flowers were also added and brought a freshness to the space that only mother nature can provide.
