Slip covers to the rescue

I received a call from a woman the other day, who said she was unhappy with the furniture placement in her home.  “I hate it, and I am not comfortable in here” was what she said.

Even though I am in the throes of moving and have a lot on my plate, the job seemed manageable enough. After-all, she just needed furniture rearranged, right? wrong!

I quickly learned that the project was a bit more involved than was stated.

So how do you turn down someone who is a sweet person, recent widower, and former Habitat for humanity volunteer, (when you’ve bitten off more than you can chew)?  well, You don’t.

I gladly accepted this challenge and soon discovered that her place was filled with “things” that provided a security blanket of lifelong memories.

We both had a challenge, she needed to sort through her many many “things”, and (to keep costs down) I had to be a team of one; so I put on my drapery installer/steamer, furniture arranger, and moving and storage hat to came up with affordable solutions for refreshing her space.

Installing and steaming the window treatments - an affordable faux silk from our ready-made line

My furniture layout plan Included 4 goals: 1. Create a comfortable and cohesive room 2. Arrange a mock entertainment center using the existing bookshelves and tv stand. 3. Add window treatments to dress up the space and add height to the room. 4. Reduce clutter

1. Slip covers helped to created cohesiveness between the floral sofa and pink and green chairs.

2. The bookshelves were moved from the east wall to the west one to create a mock entertainment center and provide better balance.

3. Window treatments dressed up the space and anchored a copper tray that had sentimental value.   4. And we tamed the clutter.Every budget deserves good design and everyone deserves a space that feels good to them.  For this client it was giving her (Goodwill and Salvation Army) furniture a lift with affordable slip covers.  It was creating a space, that lifted her spirits.  God gives us gifts and talents to bless others, because at the end of the day; life is all about loving, sharing, giving, and helping.  It’s not always about what’s in it for me.  it’s about what we can do for others.
