Lifestyle: 6 C’s to Bedroom Bliss

by / Monday, 01 April 2013 / Published in INSPIRATION STATION, Lifestyle

Thanks for stopping by Lifestyle Monday.  We cover a broad range of topics that just may enhance your life in some small way.

Today we’re uncovering the 6 C’s to Bedroom Bliss.

Bedrooms are special rooms in our home that should provide an inviting blissful  retreat.

They should be relaxing, cheerful, elegant, rustic, sexy, romantic, sophisticated, or whatever else, feels right for you.

When it feels right, I refer to this as  Bedroom Bliss.

So how do we achieve this bliss?  Try incorporating the 6 C’s mentioned below, and you’ll be on your way.

1. Color

Choose a color that can communicate the mood you want to create.

For example, I chose mysterious mauve, (a dusty muted plum) for our bedroom a couple of years ago and one day, my husband said, “when I enter our bedroom, I feel instantly sleepy and it’s hard to get any work done in there”.

Bingo! I loved that, because It was precisely what I wanted.  I wanted to create the feeling of calm in the space.

I specifically avoided energizing colors like red and orange and I didn’t want the typical calming blues or greens, so it worked!…..No more answering last minute emails in the bedroom!

I used this lighter color on the ceilingAnd this deeper tone on the walls

2. Comfort

I know this is a given, but comfort means different things to different people.  For me it means, the best mattress, your budget can afford along with adequate lighting.

It also means, carving out a niche to read and lounge when I’m not ready for bed.

3. Calm

Add a water or fire element into the bedroom. A table top or wall mounted water feature will add a relaxing addition to the room.

If this doesn’t work for you, a CD with the sound of ocean waves can bring a sense of calm and lull you to sleep.

If a fireplace is not likely, gather a few candles grouped together for soft flickering lights that cast romantic shadows around the room. The products above are available  through Ydp. Inquire with an email if interested.

4. Clutter Free

It’s so important to delete and edit all non essentials in the bedroom.  Remove the pile of bills on the side table, or the laundry basket of clothes that didn’t get folded earlier in the day.

5. Curtains

Curtains or draperies can help to soften the look of a bedroom, add glamour, privacy, sophistication and luxury.  I find that they give the room a finished look.

6. Carpet

Carpet or an area rug, help to up the comfort factor.

It’s a wonderful feeling to step onto something plush and soft (under your feet) just before you enter or exit the bed each day.
