Inspiration: A (teen bedroom) design plan in the making

This single bed is what inspired today’s post.  My daughter has been asking for a platform bed for awhile and this one seemed like a perfect fit.  It was among the new arrivals from one of our vendors and priced just right. This crystal tufted headboard would fit the Glam, luxe motif she’s been asking for.

Before making a purchase, I wanted her to consider a few more options.  Leather or fabric? tufted, untufted? crystals/studs?

She wants to use silver and gray tones with mirrored accents and a pop of color.

These are elements that would bring that look together. Mirrors, mixed print pillows, a chandelier and nice fluffy area rug.

Whenever you create a space, it’s important to include a personal element that speaks to you emotionally.  For my, daughter that would be anything fashion related. With that being said,  a feature wall dedicated to fashion will be a part of this design plan.

Every room needs a wow factor or dynamic focal point.  I like the idea of adding color or texture behind the bed.  These choices from Tempaper will allow me to do just that.

So far two concepts are coming together

This includes a patterned backdrop behind the bed (Tempaper), with drapery panels flanking the bed for a luxurious feel. The jewel tones and touch of red add a vibrancy against the muted gray walls. The chevron pattern and collage (west wall) provide the room with two focal points.  When decorating, it’s best to keep the focal points to a minimum of 2.

This is a more elegant interpretation of the Glam/Luxe motif, with it’s patterned area rug and (more elegant) Tempaper backdrop.   This is the same look without the patterned rug.

It provides the room with a more seamless look.  I added a photo collage of a runway shot from a recent fashion show.  It’s a great way of personalizing the space.

Mirrors, and crystals add extra sparkle to glam up a teens room.  I found these mirrors and magnetic crystals from Ballard designs and the contemporary (battery operated chandelier) from Hsn.com

Like most projects in their infancy, I am certain there will be revisions and perhaps a few re- interpretations of the plan.  What we do know for sure is that we’re going for a Glam/Luxe look.

Oftentimes, it lifts our spirits to breathe new life into our home.  It starts with a single room.
