As I mentioned last week, many blog post topics come out of conversations that I have with friends and acquaintances.  I attended a networking event recently, and this question was posed….What’s your story? We all have a story don’t we?  So I thought I’d use this platform to share mine.

People have seen me through my business, Your Design Partner and also as a Design Consultant for Bassett furniture. So of course people are a little confused.

How long have you been in business?

I began Ydp in Champaign Illinois in 2010 after completing my Interior decorator certification through an accredited program at Penn Foster.  Prior to completing the course, I had clients waiting to do business with me. It was an exciting time and validation that I was doing the right thing.

Why did you decide to start Ydp?

After many  moves to different towns, I wanted to engage in a career that I could get excited about and could follow me wherever we moved. Interior design was the answer. It was validating when  people asked who staged or decorated our home? It also helped when, I realized that I worked really hard to be the top salesperson working for others….It was time to put that energy into my own business.

Do you prefer a certain design aesthetic?

Yes,  most designers have an affinity to lean a certain way in their design styles, but it’s never about us….We want to know what your style is, and help you achieve it.

Okay, but what is your particular design style?

I would define it as a relaxed elegance ,Global chic and Comfort with class.

What do you like most about your  work?

Definitely the people I work with….I’ve met some awesome friends through the design process.  No two clients are the same.   I love learning my clients vision and the challenge of helping them bring it to life.

Why did you decide to call your business Your Design Partner?

My business is collaborative on so many levels.  I partner with  my clients of course, but also with trades persons to bring the design plan to fruition.  So it’s crucial to have great relationships.

What does your tagline mean..Interior design to fit your lifestyle?

It speaks to  my 3 plans.  Some clients want a simple refresh, others want a full redesign and some want to meet somewhere in the middle.  Our 3 plans are designed to meet them where they are in their planning.  Additionally, my choices for fabrics, accessories and furnishings are chosen based on different client needs. Most want value and quality without spending a million bucks.

So why do we see you at Bassett?

Accepting a position  as a design consultant at Bassett allows me the opportunity to earn  an income as I build my business in my new hometown.  The benefit to clients is, if you work with me through Bassett your design consultation is complimentary.

I noticed that you have a store on your website…Tell me about it?

shop.yourdesignpartner.com

Yes.  I partnered with Arcadian home several months ago.  They carry many quality brands of home furnishings and accessories that are represented at design shows I attend.  I love the range of price points and that shipping is free for my clients (if items are over $99) I wanted my clients to have the access and convenience of ordering in their PJ’s if they wanted to.  Additionally, when we make recommendations for products, they can pull the trigger whenever it’s convenient for them.  The link is simple….shop.yourdesignpartner.com

If someone wants to work with you what should they do?
