Sundays with Ydp: Finish the room!
I often walk into homes and see a lot of potential. Homeowners often start a project and don’t get around to completing it. Unfortunately, I too am guilty of this. So the questions is, Why don’t we finish the room?
- I think there are a multitude of reasons….Here are some
- New homebuyers need to get a feel for their space first
- The local retail stores just don’t have what you’re looking for
- You’re not sure what you want to do yet
- It’s too overwhelming to think about it, so you end up doing nothing
- You don’t know where to get help
- Life happens and you just don’t get to it
- You started, got stuck and stopped
- You started an inspiration file…step 1 and can’t find the time to get to step 2, or 3
- You’ve got other priorities
- etc. etc. etc.
I was inspired to write this post today because these are the things I hear from colleagues, and clients on a daily basis.
The most common is, not having the time, skill set or desire to take on the challenge of getting it done.
It’s also why I love what I do. Because I can actually help.
I’m currently looking for wall art that will give a client’s living room a WOW factor.
The living room is lovely, but is missing the Punch that my client is going for.
Everything in her current living room has similar tones, with a muted soft quality. While this feels nice to the client, she wants more. She’s missing the wow!
I’m proposing that we work from the opposite side of the color wheel to infuse the energy that is lacking in the space.
The living room is lovely with soft neutrals of beige, warm white and varying tones of blue green hues.
Adding tones of orange will provide a nice juxtaposition
If we strategically incorporate art and accessories in this color family, the room will Sing sing sing!
Here are a few ideas for art
And Accessories
Accessories are often the final stage that gets overlooked and forgotten…It’s the “We’ll get to it” stage.
Design Tip of the Week
The final stage (accessories) of a design plan is just as important as the major furnishings. Left out, the true essence of the space is missing. Choose your accessories wisely. They should represent things that make you smile.
If you have your large pieces in place, but are missing the essence or the soul of your room(s)….add the final stage ya’ll…..you know “The seasonings”
And Let’s finish the room! 🙂
