Sundays with Ydp: Peekaboo colors Smooth or Dramatic?
What are peekaboo colors?
They are colors that peek out from a neighboring room and are usually of a different hue. That hue can be subtle or dramatic. They are often referred to as transition colors, but I like to call them peek a boo hues.
There are a few ways to make these colors SHINE
1. Dramatic transitions
Take this image from the Sherwin Williams site. This is a dramatic transition. We have a soft mauve that peeks through from a neighboring black room.
Below, the deep blue gray is a dramatic juxtaposition from its neighboring soft gray shade. You may remember it from our gray matters post from a few weeks back.
2. Same color different intensities
This Is common for easy transitions. Make a central room one color and connecting rooms a shade lighter or deeper. It will add interest, with an expansive “feel”.
3. Smooth Transitions using different colors
Add colors that would flow easily from one room to the next. For example Blues, greens and yellows will transition with interest without being too jarring.
These rocks are a great indicator of a perfect palette from mother nature. Imagine your room having varying shades of gray. A peekaboo color can exist on walls, ceilings and floors. Add a few to your decor and watch the magic happen.
