I’m so excited to have Dreameka guest post with us again.  Since  my Thanksgiving menu will have a global vibe with Indian spices and a few Thai dishes. She has recommended a few great wines that will enhance the exotic flavors.  It’s also worth noting that most are under $20.00wine bottle and glasses

It’s that time of year again. The leaves have changed, the air is crisp, and the fall is upon us. The best part however, is that we are now officially in the holiday season and Thanksgiving is right around the corner.

The Thanksgiving holiday is full of traditions for many people and those traditions extend out into the menus that they tend to follow.

Turkey, dressing, pumpkin pie, all these foods make for a traditional thanksgiving meal, but in keeping up with the traditional holiday, it is also fun to create your own traditions.

Some choose to take a break from the traditional flavors of thanksgiving and incorporate new and exotic flavors for their meals. Regardless of what you decide to do it’s not complete until you add some great wine to complement the meal.  Here I will introduce some wines that will be a great accompaniment to exotic flavors such as Thai and Indian dishes, as well as, the more traditional flavors of the holiday.

FOR THE WHITES

1.  Rieslings

Rieslings are very refreshing white wine that are very crisp on the Finish.  Many rieslings are very fruit forward and because they can have a very crisp finish they can pair well with bold and lighter flavors. There are a lot of good rieslings, but the thing to remember when finding a good riesling is to avoid any that are too sweet.

2.  Chardonnays

Chardonnays are very popular white wine varietals and they can sometimes get a bad rap. Chardonnays pair beautifully with many types of poultry, but it is especially good with the many flavors of a good turkey. Chardonnays can run the gamut of body, aging, and flavor notes. The scale can be anywhere from big, oaky, and buttery to light, floral, and crisp. The thing to remember when choosing a Chardonnay is know the flavors of the dish that you will be pairing the wine with, this will help you decide how to pick the right Chardonnay.

3. Sauvignon Blancs.

Sauvignon Blancs are great wines and are my personal favorite when it comes to white wine. Sauvignon Blancs are produced in many wine growing regions all over the world, but the best ones, in my opinion, come from New Zealand and Australia. Though these are my favorites, I must admit, that Sauvignon Blancs can have a bit of stronger taste to those who are unfamiliar or new to wine. Sauvignon Blancs have a very strong citrus taste. To some, these citrus notes come across as acidic, but to others like myself, they’re wonderful. The finish on a Sauvignon Blanc will always be very crisp which makes them a great pairing for bolder, spicier flavors.

FOR THE REDS

1.  Pinot Noir

Pinot Noirs are viewed as the quintessential Thanksgiving wine. These wine are soft, balanced, and marry very well with turkeys of all flavors. Because Pinot Noirs are not the same as a big and bold Cabernet Sauvignon, the finish will be soft and light that can pair well with Turkey.

2.  Syrah

Syrahs are another flavorful but soft wine that pairs well with the flavors of Thanksgiving. Depending on where the wine is produced the spelling will change.  Syrah’s have a very soft fruit-forward, almost, jammy flavor. However, unlike, Cabernet Sauvignons which can also have a jammy flavor, Syrah’s have a very silky finish.

3.  Red Blends

Blends are great for Thanksgiving because they can have many flavors that will complement anything on your table and even the dessert table. Everything from the notes in the wine to the finish is a great addition to your Thanksgiving menu.
