Sundays with Ydp: Sometimes a color consultation is all you need
Not everyone needs a full blown design project. Sometimes they just want a professional opinion and a little guidance when making home improvements.
That was the case for my friend Jen.
She was in the process of updating her lower level and was interested in a color consultation.
The goal was to enhance the space and allow color harmony from room to room in her lower level
My friend also wanted to infuse COLOR to liven up the space, but our challenge was, there were low ceilings in some areas.
We started the consultation at a local furniture store where she was considering a purchase.
This step was integral to choosing paint colors for the room.
Oftentimes clients choose a paint color and then attempt to match fabrics to their paint swatches. It’s much easier to start with the items that will take up residence in the space.

New paint colors
We settled on Sherwin Williams Versatile gray because it harmonized with her bar countertops, upholstered pieces and yielded a great light reflective value. This was super important because of the low ceilings.
To acknowledge the wow that Jen wanted, we chose Foggy day for one wall only. It really made her space sing. The juxtaposition between the rest of the room and the focal wall was dynamic and dramatic.
Here’s a sneak peak of the focal wall as it stands out against the versatile gray.
And this was the selection from our initial meeting.
Our project now calls for art, an area rug, and floor lamp to complete the look.
Thanks for stopping by friends,
