Sundays with Ydp: Choose your favorite drapery style

by / Sunday, 17 July 2016 / Published in INSPIRATION STATION, Sundays with Ydp

sundays-with-YdpI’m in the process of designing a few custom draperies for a client’s dining room , home office and master suite.

These days, people seem to shy away from extravagant treatments that take yards and yards of fabric with swoops, swags and curves.

Streamlined,  simplistic options seem to reign. Draperies and curtains are used to add a splash of color, soften harsh lines in a room and even add height and drama.

Stationary, panels are the go to trend, along with cornices and top treatments. They offer simple clean lines that enhance a room without making an over statement.

Here are three styles we’re considering:

1. Stria Style (Home office)

I’m using three neutral textured solids to add interest to a home office. The top will be the light,  followed by a deep chocolate tone and then finishing the look with the middle oatmeal hue. I’m recommending bronzed black finials (the jewelry) to contrast with the fabric and harmonize with the rest of the room.

2. Adding  decorative trim  to a pleated style (Dining Room)

This textured solid gets dressed up with decorative trim on the leading edge.  The fretwork banding adds a delegate detail and the glass finials offer a bit of glam.

3. Simple Pinch pleated stationary panels (master suite)

This lovely fabric, makes a statement all it’s own and will take up residence in a master suite.  The brushed bronze rod is the perfect complement for the panels. the right drapery hardware

Design tips this week

Stationary drapery panels are a smart and cost efficient way to add color and style to a room.

Hang them as high as you can to add both drama and elegance

Use your blinds, shades and sheers for your  light control and your panels/top treatments to make a statement.

End caps in lieu of finials are ideal for tight spaces.

Don’t forget to choose  jewelry (rods, and finials) to complement the fabric and harmonize with the rest of the room.

Achieve a designer look, by dressing up solid fabrics with details.  Here are a few examples from my pinterest boards for inspiration.
