We’ve been in our new home about a month now and things are beginning to take shape.  Of course we want to do everything now, but the reality is, we have to put the brakes on frequently.  Stuff is expensive, especially nice stuff.

Before moving in, I wanted to repaint right away, but now the paint color seems suitable enough.

I wanted to replace the wall to wall carpet, but opted for steam cleaning instead.

I also wanted new light fixtures  and flooring in the master bathroom, and the list goes on and on and on and on.

The truth is, like most of us, we have to prioritize and budget…which is no fun and not sexy. 🙁

One of the first areas was the entryway  You may remember reading about it here.

Next we needed furniture for our media room and opted for a modular set.

This 6 piece modular set from Bassett furniture(Beckham) has deep comfy seats and overstuffed pillows and was perfect for our needs.media room

We also purchased 2 storage ottomans  to add to the casual vibe we were going for. I chose these mixed printed pillows to harmonize with the wall art.media rm3I find it exciting to know that we can create an “L” or “U” shaped sectional using the modular pieces we purchased.

Hello design flexibility, good bye boring.

Next up is new paint, side (or sofa) tables, and maybe a few sconces. Stay tuned.

This week’s design tip

Tight spaces? Go modular

Modular pieces offer design flexibility and may be the perfect solution for sofas that are difficult to maneuver on stairs.  I’ve had many clients who didn’t have adequate clearance through doorways or stairwells, and the modular option was the perfect solution.

I LOVED my modular couch. I really want a new one. I have a small living room and it gave us plenty of sitting space. But it had served it’s time. It had been in the family for about 22 years. May the modular couch RIP. 🙂
