Liberty township family room gets a refresh

by / Sunday, 23 December 2018 / Published in INSPIRATION STATION, Sundays with Ydp

With 3 days remaining until Christmas, the final home stretch was in full effect. I had 2  liberty township projects to complete. One included this following great room refresh.

Before we got started we assessed the space for it’s potential.  I loved the two story room and open concept and was excited to help my clients create the mood they were seeking.

What mood were my client seeking for the space?

  • Inviting
  • Airy and open
  • Homey
  • Nostalgic and informal

Our plan of action:

  • Replace the flooring in the great room
  • Update the furniture
  • Add a new ceiling fan and update the light fixtures throughout the home
  • Paint the kitchen, family room and hallway
  • Replace kitchen cabinetry hardware
  • Add window treatments in 4 rooms
  • Design and install 2 custom credenzas to anchor the fireplace with floating shelves above each.
  • Recommend and purchase art to represent the mood the client is seeking for the space.
  • Place a new TV above the fireplace

Our recommended layout

Space planning included moving the furniture away from the walls to make it a more inviting and central part of the room.

New furniture included An L-Shaped sectional, 3 ottomans, floor lamp and side table. All to achieve an informal yet inviting atmosphere.

New tiled floors replaced wall to wall carpeting and an area rug added comfort.

Window treatments included  Allure shades for light control and custom draperies.

Keeping the overall paint color light kept to an open and airy look, but we added depth with storm cloud by Sherwin williams.  Contrast is king for creating a stunning focal p0int.

Our design for the fireplace

One of the most exciting additions for the family was this 60″ tv.

As you can see, game time was already in motion when this photo was taken.

Soft chenille fabric with custom pillows and a rustic side table were an inviting addition.

Nostalgia was important for our clients, so these handmade quilt and table runner were passed down in the family along with the sofa table. Which was a refinished antique and family heirloom.

We added this valance to the kitchen window to give a nod to the great room pillows

Overall the clients were thrilled with the changes we made. We went for:

  • Inviting
  • Airy and open
  • Homey
  • Nostalgic and informal

and I think we achieved that, but more importantly, we are thrilled that they get to enjoy their new room for the holidays.
