Have you recently taken a look at your home and thought “oh my gosh, it’s so dull”? Well, if you have, you’re not alone. More often than not, we decide to redecorate or renovate our homes out of boredom, without any real reason; which can be expensive and time-consuming. So, in order to help you satisfy your desire for something fresh and new, here are some suggestions on how to breathe new life into your home.

1. Shuffle things around

If you find yourself dissatisfied with the way your home looks, but you don’t really have a budget to do a renovation or replace your furniture, you can simply move things around. For example, take all the accessories from your living room and make a big pile. Next, group them by color, and find new places for the new, color-coded groups of items. This way, space will take on a different note, without you having to put a single penny into it!

2. Add a bit of color

Another way to bring in a breath of fresh air into the old, boring space is adding a splash of color. For example, you can choose one of the interior doors and give it a makeover. Paint it a bold, bright color to achieve what BJC Painting experts refer to as “the ‘wow’ factor”. If you’re not sure about the brightly colored door and you feel like it would seem a bit out of place, you may want to consider a statement wall. It can simply be a wall that differs in color from the rest of the room. However, you can go all out, and use patterns or even pictures in order to make it really stand out. Also, don’t feel like you’re limited to only these options. Re-painting the chairs and table can work wonders as well!

3. Get a new rug

One of the best ways to bring a bit of extra interest into a room is by getting a rug. It’ll provide a sense of warmth and comfort, and if you like walking barefoot, you’ll love it immediately. Rugs and carpets offer an irresistible feeling of coziness and welcome, so if you don’t have one, now is the time to get it. It’ll make any room look great. In order to get the most out of it, make sure to match – or better yet, contrast – the colors in the room well.

4. Go green

If you don’t have any potted plants in your home, getting a few could be the best way to refresh your space. Plants work with any kind of space, no matter how big or small. There are many different ways to arrange them, so you can choose the one that suits your home best. Aside from looking nice, plants are also useful as a way to help you relax, since they have a positive psychological effect on people. They also produce oxygen, so your home will have better quality air if you throw in a pot or two.

5. Do It Yourself

No matter how much experience you have, you can still do quite a bit yourself. For example, if you have an old wooden table that has lost its shine, you can return it to its old glory with your two hands. Clean it thoroughly, sand lightly, and apply a coat of varnish or a kind of wood finishing of your choice. While this is hardly the easiest method, it’ll definitely save you a pretty penny down the road.

Bringing a new life into an old space doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. You don’t have to overhaul the entire house in order to make a change, either. These simple ideas will add an interesting turn to your already beautiful home, so try them on before you decide to completely redecorate the place.
