Lifestyle: Get Started on Your Summer Recipes!

If you want to try a few light and tasty recipes, Grace shares a few here.

While technically the first day of summer isn’t until June 21, I always consider Memorial Day to be the official start of the season and with that being today I thought it was time to start the summer fun! I’ve been pinning fun summery recipes all winter just waiting and hoping for the weather to warm up and now that it finally has, I decided to try one of the recipes!

I love fruit salsas, and just like the creator of this recipe I don’t like how sugary they can be; I still like them to have a bit of heat to match the sweetness. That’s why this recipe is so great! The strawberries and honey are fresh and sweet but the peppers and cilantro keep it tasting like a traditional tomato salsa. Its like world’s colliding!

In addition to the strawberries there is also a couple of tomatoes in the recipe, which keep the traditional salsa vibe, but with a fruity twist!

I used Poblano peppers instead of Serrano simply because my grocery store was out. The flavor was still there but it wasn’t as spicy. A Poblano would make a good substitute if children will be eating the salsa as well.

The recipe was really simple and is basically just dicing and chopping. Another thing that I liked about this salsa is that the measurements didn’t need to be exact. I love cilantro but am not crazy about basil so I put more of one than the other. I took some pictures while I made it because as corny as it sounds I thought that the colors of all the fresh herbs and fruit were so pretty that I had to!

I decided to try the salsa with tortilla chips and thought it was perfect but you could also use pita chips. The creator of the recipe even used a baguette!

That strawberry salsa recipe is just begging for an outdoor party to make its debut! It’s a lot like summer: sweet and fruity but with just the right amount of heat!

Here are some other recipes I found that fit into this season:

Pineapple Upside Down Cupcakes

Pineapple Upside Down Cupcakes (2) - Copy

A fun take on an old favorite! The best part is they are easier to make than they seem!

Grilled Steak Tacos With Spicy Slaw
I am dying to try this recipe. From what I can tell it takes a meal that’s somewhat of a summer staple and takes it to a gourmet level!

Grilled Steak Tacos with Spicy Slaw

Mini Peach Cobblers
Peach cobbler always reminds me of the south, and these mini pastries would be fantastic at a barbecue!

Thankfully I have all summer to work through my recipe board on Pinterest! These 3 are definitely at the top of the list! What will you be making this summer?
