Lifestyle: Celebrate the ones you love now. Today. Tommorow may be too late.
Losing loved ones has a way of reminding us of our mortality. A recent loss, reminded me to embrace and celebrate the people that I love sooner than later. It reminded me that today we should celebrate because tomorrow might be too late.
My mom, grandmother, sister and I recently got together for a multigenerational girlz weekend to do just that.
It had been a long time coming when just the girlz got together (pic 20 yrs ago). With busy schedules and individual family commitments it was a bit difficult, but we finally did it!
I wanted to create a relaxing atmosphere, conducive for lengthy conversations, so I moved an outdoor furniture group to the screened in porch area to avoid pesky mosquitos. My daughter created a poster to set the tone for our theme.
Of course I outfitted everyone with matching pj’s
We sipped wine, drank tea, ate yummy foods, and chatted until midnight. We even carved out time for relaxing body massages.
It was an amazing time! So why am I sharing this with you?
I just want to encourage you to connect with those you love. Celebrate them now. Today.
Here are some things you can do.
Record your history with your elders
Unravel past hurts and heal from them
Learn as much as you can about each other
Engage in a craft or game together
Get massages together
Enjoy exotic foods at a restaurant you’ve never been to.
More important than anything else, just connect and love them up as soon as you can. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us.
Even though I come from a close and loving family, I left this weekend feeling wiser, and more connected than ever before. We now want to make this an annual event.
What ideas can you add to the list to foster bonding?
Do you need help getting a jump start on a project?
