When you walk into your office, whether it’s at home or away, it should make a statement about you.  One way to do this is to infuse personal elements in your design plan.

Here are a few ideas.

1. Add a photo collage of your favorite images.

Photographs have a way of personalizing a space perfectly. Family images, a recent trip, or a relaxing oasis can conjure up feelings of pride, peace and bring a smile to your face, particularly if your day isn’t going so well.

2. Add something to the space that you created yourself.   My husband painted this image of McMicken hall. It’s one of the historical buildings on campus that he proudly displays on his wall.

3. Include an element of nature.  It’s always a gift that keeps on giving when you merge the outside with the inside.  If living plants aren’t a reality for you, go for something that looks as natural as possible.

4.  Create a niche or wall of achievements. They tend to inspire and motivate you to continue to pursue your best.

5. Include a statement piece or something unexpected. As a collector of African art, we included an African motif on a far wall in the office.  It has a way of reminding us of a connection to our heritage.
