Lifestyle: 8 Essential Elements for a Successful Teen Room REFRESH

by / Friday, 11 October 2013 / Published in INSPIRATION STATION, Lifestyle

If you want a successful room refresh, there are a plethora of ways to make it uniquely yours. Here are 8 important elements to consider.

1. Evaluate walls for any damage and repair  2. Choose a great background color that won’t compete with your furnishings. We went with Sherwin Williams Silver strand. Choosing the right color is an integral part of a design plan, as it can have a transformative effect in the space and on your mood. Have you ever walked into a room and it just didn’t feel right?  Maybe the color was all wrong.  Since color trends come and go, choose what you love and what feels right to you.

3. Select mixed patterns and textures for added interest  4. Determine the room’s identity or theme What are your hobbies and interests?  Make sure your room reflects some of these things. Since my daughter has an interest in fashion, I wanted the room to reflect a vibe that resonated with her passion.I chose a few online images, quotes and photo of my daughter, I enlarged them and made this collage.  It made an ideal focal point above the bed. (there will be a future post on how to create your own) 5. Update your lighting   The ceiling fan had to go! This contemporary find from lowes was a perfect fit.

We also updated the side tables with new table lamps (remember our spray painting project)

6. Choose Accents that tie in with the room’s identity or theme  we created a template and added this silhouette to the backside of one of the pillows. We also added a little bling to the walls.  Below is how the pillow looks when it’s flipped over (two looks in one) 7. Flooring considerationAdd an area rug for a nice layer of comfort or splash of color.  We went for comfort.

8. Update window treatments

The room had a floral top treatment before, it was lovely, but just didn’t work with our concept. I fell in love with these burlap curtains.  They bring in an element of texture and a warmth to the space. Overall, I think my daughter is pleased with the way her room turned out.

Just in! The velvet slipper chair we’ve been waiting for has finally shipped. I thought I’d sneak it in the end of this post.

Thank you so much for the room makeover! It’s exactly what I wanted… a minimalistic room with glass, white, and silver, but something that also had a splash of glam. The pillows, mixed texture, wall decor, and rug create that chic element that is au me! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You’re the best mommy in the world.
