How to update kitchen can lights in 3 easy steps

The first thing you want to do is buy a conversion kit. Try Lowes, Home depot, amazon.com or Ballard designs.
In my opinion,  whoever invented this idea was genius!
It’s so easy to install and the results can be stunning.
Here’s what you do…
1. unscrew the current bulb
2. Screw in the adapter ensuring that the cover is flush with the ceiling
The version on the left is what Lowes carries, I’ve tried it and found it to be more affordable, but slightly more challenging to hang because the excess cord ends up  bunched up inside the can light.
The adapter on the right is from Ballard designs, the excess cord gets wrapped around the horizontal center piece and hangs more streamlined and with much less fuss.
3. Attach your shade of choice (i chose Burlap) and secure it with the supplied rings.
And that’s it!  You can go from regular can lights to added style in no time.
New paint and new pendant lights are an easy way to update a kitchen.  I chose a warm paint color and added textured burlap shades for a rustic sensibility.  next up will be new counter stools!
The conversion kit and shade options are from Ballard designs.  Once the pendant cord is hung, you can change your shades from glass to fabric in under 5 minutes.  Below is an example of two versions using the same pendant cord.
Which do you like best, the burlap drum shade or glass pendant?
There are so many choices of shade and glass styles. Changing can lights to pendants, really is as easy as 1, 2 3.
