Lifestyle: Get into the holiday spirit, even if you feel like scrooge
The holiday season and end of the year is upon us. Does it seem to get here quicker each year or is it me?
Ready or not it’s time to get into the holiday spirit, even if you’re feeling less than enthused. If you are feeling a little scroog-ish. Try these ideas.
1. Get out of the house, even if its to go window shopping. Since the spirit of the season is in full throttle, being out of your house will lift your spirits.
You can’t help but smile looking at holiday displays and listening to holiday music playing through the store speakers.
When I hear classics like “This Christmas” from Donny Hathaway, It instantly elevates my mood. Seriously, I could be super crabby, but when that song starts playing, I’m transported to another place:)
2. Shop for a holiday tree and decorate it to your hearts content. Create a theme of colors, collectibles, or homemade items. Whatever you decide, choose something that will make your heart smile. The tree doesn’t have to be large or perfect, it can be a table top tree with just one star at the top.
3. Pump up the music with holiday sounds while you decorate. You will feel energized.
4. Add lighting and holiday candles to your decor to add a nice glow.
5. Give to a needy family. Knowing that you’ve made a difference in someone else’s life is an awesome way of spreading joy and receiving it back, at the same time. This year, we decided to give gifts to several kids who have a parent that is incarcerated.
6. Reach out to an old friend you haven’t seen in awhile, and bless each other with the gift of just sharing time with one another.
7. Throw a neighborhood gathering to get to know your neighbors better.
8. If all else fails, think of the reason for the season. It’s the kings birthday afterall. Enough said.
How do you get into the holiday spirit? Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
