3 Ways to have “Grown folks fun” this Halloween!
Halloween is not just for the kiddos, us grown folks love to have a little fun too. Not going out? No worries, enjoy a perfect night right at home cuddled up with these great ideas. We have a new contributing writer at Ydp who will add topics, we think you’ll enjoy!! Meet Dreameka Sneed.
As we all know Halloween can be a very fun holiday. With everything that comes with the holiday, from the costumes, to the candy, to the trick or treaters, it can definitely give you the impression that it’s for kids only.
Aside from it seeming like a holiday just for kids, it can also seem like the one day that gives people an excuse to disguise themselves and act foolishly. This can leave those of us out of the equation who prefer something a little more sophisticated.
So for those of us who prefer to do something a little more chilled, relaxed, and grown-up, here are 3 suggestions. In my humble opinion, Halloween is the unofficial start of the holiday season, so lets get it started!
1. To begin the night I love to start with an awesome wine.
Fall brings about a chill in the air and so nothing is more comforting than a great bottle of red wine. A few of my faves are a Zinfandel, or a great Red Blend (a wine containing different varietals of grapes). The wine industry began marketing wines that follow the theme of halloween and some are great tasting and affordable.
( From Left to Right):
-
Phantom by Bogle Vineyards is a great wine. This wine is a blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. The wine itself contains notes of plum, blackberry, and hints of spice and a bit of coconut. So Yummy!
-
The Zinzilla is a Red Zinfandel blend. This wine is big, bold, and very flavorful. The wine has notes of many different berries that makes it taste very jammy. This wonderful Zinfandel also has notes of chocolate and a hint of spice.
-
This wine is one of my personal favorites as it is a great red blend. The Besieged has loads of blackberry, cherry, plum, and a bit of cardamon. It’s very silky and finishes extremely smooth, making it the bottle that’s hard to share. LoL.
-
Apothic Dark. This wine is another very good blend and though it seems like it would be a bold wine, it is actually very smooth. This yummy wine has notes of blueberry and blackberry, combined with chocolate. Not only does the wine finish smoothly but there is some sweetness on the end as well.
2. Now that we have our wine we need some food to go with it. Steak Tacos are a great choice. They’re small, filling, and a great pairing for the wines. They’re also so yummy!
3. After you’ve filled up on tacos and really indulging in the luscious wines, it wouldn’t be Halloween without a good horror film.
Classic fright night films such as the Nightmare on Elm Street movies and Halloween are always great to watch, and who can forget Screams 1 and 2.
If you’re looking for something a little more current Saw 1-5 are winners and a personal favorite of mine is Orphan. If you’re looking for something with a Halloween theme but not too scary, go with Dark Shadows and Hocus Pocus.
Who’s ready for wine, steak tacos and a creepy film? What’s your favorite scary movie? Which wine will you try?
