Sundays with Ydp: A global Holiday table

sundays-with-YdpAll i can say is YIKES!!! Somehow we went from 3 guests for dinner to 15!!
Not only are there more guests, but these days it’s so important to be considerate of dietary restrictions.
My challenge is to create a menu that honors tradition,  yet accommodates guests who prefer a vegan diet.

What to do , what to do!

To make life a little easy I’m considering ordering my turkey already marinated in Tandoori spices from a local Indian restaurant called Bombay Brazier…This will save me time and provide a different twist to my usual butter and herb recipe.

I expect that the Tandoori Turkey will look similar to this one.

Since my turkey will have exotic flavors, I decided to continue with an international influence, yet still honor tradition. Here’s what I’ve come up with so far.

To Honor Tradition I’ll serve:

  • Stuffing

  • Mac and cheese

  • Mixed kale and collards sauteed with olive oil and fresh garlic

  • Candied yams

  • Fresh garden salad with home made dressing

  • Cranberry sauce

  • Sweet tea

  • Sweet potato pie

  • Apple pie

  • Ice cream

Keeping with the flavors of India I’ll offer:

  • Vegetable samosas

  • lentil soup

  • Basmati rice

I’ll also incorporate a Thai influence which will include:

  • Mixed vegetables  in a Thai coconut curry sauce

  • Ginger sesame tempeh lettuce wraps (will act as a meat substitute for my vegan guests)

I hope I achieved a good balance of  traditional and vegan choices.

What do you think?  Any recommendations?
