Sundays with Ydp: 4 ways to rock a triptych

sundays-with-YdpArt is personal and often elicits a different response from each person that it speaks to.

Art can command your attention and punctuate a space.  It can be sexy or dignified, serene or boastful, it can be subtle, timid, amazing and even disturbing.  The key to incorporating art into design projects is simple.  Choose art that resonates with your room, your style, your heart.  Let it connect to you in some way that makes you smile.  Maybe it’s the colors, the movement of a piece or the theme, whatever it is, choose something that draws you in.  That something for me is abstracts, for some reason they just speak to me.  I think it’s because abstracts can be interpreted in many ways and there is a freedom of expression in them that lacks precision and I love that.

Design tip of the week: Try a new way to hang your art

Triptychs spread a single image across three canvases or showcases a series of related images for stunning results.  Here are 4 ways to rock a triptych.

1. Hang your art at eye level.  When art is hung too high there is a disconnect from the furnishings it’s designed to enhance.

2. Try grouping  triptychs together to create greater visual impact.

 3. Centering art is the standard way of hanging your treasures…..Ummm, how about B O R I N G !  Go out of the box and shift your art to the left or right side of a sofa just to stir things up a bit.

4. Try a diagonal placement to create movement, whimsy and interest.

Add a new energy to your space with new art.   Go ahead shake things up!  Purchase a triptych or try painting one yourself.
