Sundays with Ydp: Finding the right rug for your dining room
Sometimes a lovely room can be even more lovely with a small update. I received a request to replace this rug in the formal dining room below.
While the traditional rug looks good, we’re suggesting an update, using a more transitional or modern aesthetic. Here are a few things to consider
1. Color harmony and details that connect with the rest of the room.
Deeper tones will help ground a space, while specific hues harmonize with the the other elements in the room.
2. Try Border rugs
They are perfect for showing off their details around the perimeter. This way you don’t have to worry about center details that often get covered up.
3. Random rug design
You can also try a random design that showcases the rug details throughout. This way you can enjoy the print from every direction.
4. Art on the floor
Tone on tone rugs will add interest and allow for terrific design flexibility.
Bold prints make significant statements and are great when clients lack adequate wall space. Instead of wall art, go for floor art.
5. Geometric rugs will add interest and a relaxed elegance.
6. Lighter tones create an open airy feeling, providing balance to rooms that feel visually heavy.
7. Natural fibers offer textural and visual interest.
Updating your dining room rug is a simple change that could yield beautiful results. Looking for an easy refresh? It can be as easy as replacing your existing rug.
Design tip of the week:
Make sure you choose the right rug size
Your chairs should remain on the rug, when they are pulled away from the table. Typically, an 8 x 10 or 9 x 12 are best for dining room spaces.
