How does one incorporate their love of cooking with decorating?

It started with the spice bible. I was introduced to this book a few weeks ago and was amazed by what I learned.  I hoped for better ways to use spices in my kitchen, but found that they inspired so much more.

Most people wouldn’t connect spices with decorating, but for some reason, the spices immediately stirred up images of Global, Boho and Ethnic motifs for me, because the colors in spices are usually beautiful, rich, saturated hues often found in these styles.

Learn about these spices with me, along with the color palettes they stirred up (colorsnap app).

Wolfberry– This orangey red dried fruit is used in asian dishes and is often referenced as a goji berry. It’s revered not only for it’s amazing nutritional value, but also touted to assist in longevity, sexual function, eyesight, kidney and liver function. They have a tart sweet flavor and have become a popular healthy snack.

Star Anise  This beautiful spice is one of the essential spices in chinese five-spice. It has a warm woody, aniseed flavor and is surprisingly 13 times sweeter than sugar.  This spice is found in many asian dishes and also fruit and custard dishes. Imagine these hues in pops of color in your home accents, or in a sultry bedroom suite.

Coriander

Apart from Europe, coriander seeds are used widely in Indian, Latin American, North African, and Middle Eastern cooking.  The seed yields a warm aromatic flavor with citrus and sage undertones. If you like your home to be warm and cozy with a Tuscan or Mediterranean vibe, these hues are a great starting point for a color palette.

For some reason this rug , from our shop just screams SPICY to me.  I love the deep rich earth tones reminiscent of cayenne, thyme, paprika and, mustard seeds.

I truly seem to find inspiration in all things

What is your favorite spice to cook with?  Can the colors be used in your home?
