Sundays with Ydp: Life is too short to have ugly cushions on your couch
I’ve been in New York the past couple of days with my lovely daughter and I’m so proud of the woman she is becoming.
She is attending one of the top fashion programs in the country and has recently accepted an internship in her field of study in the big Apple.
So here we are in New York City as she gets acclimated to her new home for the next four months!
I’ve never been a huge fan of the big city, but I can’t help but share in her excitement.
And I just pray for her to have a successful, safe and rewarding experience.
As for Decorating…
One of my favorite things to do, is collect quotes that speak to me and I couldn’t help but post the one below, out of sheer light hearted humor.
Seriously, it’s true.
There are way too many lovely fabrics out there for anyone to have ugly cushions. Now of course the term ugly is relative right? Some people like bold patterns and rich colors.
And others like more muted hues.
Whichever your preference, Challenge yourself to mix your prints for a true design aesthetic.
Vary your patterns, and textures, and keep color harmony among them.
I recently had a lovely, client who was in her 90’s and wanted her sofa to be covered in a fabric that was outrageously different than any request I’ve ever received.
While I was hesitant initially, I grew excited to give her what she wanted the more we chatted.
This lovely woman used to go to the beach in Maine every summer. When I met her, it was the first summer she couldn’t go, and she wanted to bring Maine and the beach to her living room in Ohio.
Her fabric choice was BOLD, with turquoise, pink, yellow and green.
It was a fabric I would normally sway a client away from, but in her case, it was something that made her sooo happy.
In her mind she was creating the perfect couch with beautiful cushions that reminded her of the beach. If you can’t go to the beach, why not bring the beach to your home.
Life is too short to have ugly cushions on your couch.
Do you agree? Are you on the Bold team or the neutral muted one? Decorating is so personal that my ugly, may be your beautiful.
