Why Color Matters by Brian

When it comes time to paint the interior of your home, picking the color that is right for you may seem like a daunting task. Not only is it a job that requires much effort, but also it can either reward you with visual pleasure, or cause you to feel uncomfortable for many months, and perhaps years until you decide to paint again.

And even if you’ve just moved into your home and haven’t decided to paint yet, you’ve likely been in a situation where the color of a room has affected the way that you think and feel.

For example, I once visited my Aunt right after she’d done a little remodeling of her home by putting in wood floors. She then decided to paint one of the rooms a pleasant red color, not unlike the color of certain leaves in Autumn, to match the slightly red hue of her new floors.

Walking into that room, I instantly felt comfortable and warm; one could even say that it felt cozy, whereas in the other plainly colored rooms I felt differently.

Picking a color can be daunting when there are so many to choose from!

Of course, your home doesn’t have to be colorful, and some people may actually prefer that. In this case painting your home a neutral color like a pure white, and furnishing your rooms with natural objects like wood furniture, can create an open feeling and make your rooms look and feel bigger than they really are.

A visual example of this can be found right here. Also, If you’re feeling ultra-modern, you could also try furnishing your home with clear, or “ghost”, furniture as mentioned in a previous post written by Ricci. Painting your living space in a neutral color and furnishing it as mentioned really reinforces the idea that you don’t have to live in a mansion to make your home feel bigger and look richer.
