KITCHEN UPDATES THAT WON’T BREAK THE BANK

I’ve been on the lookout for a new kitchen table for some time now and fell in love with the beautiful Live edge trend.

COMPARISON SHOPPING IS KEY

Live edge tables are everywhere.  I really love what Bassett furniture offers because of their custom features.  There you can choose from several finishes and sizes.  If custom is not important to you however, you may find what you need elsewhere.  I landed at wayfair for my selection.  The table suited my size, budget and aesthetic needs.

Live edge tables have their own unique shape and are imperfectly beautiful.

CHOOSE YOUR SEATING

When selecting your chairs, decide what your vision will be for the set.   Should it be casual, dressy or somewhere in between? These days, benches are popular choices, along with mixed finishes.  Gone are the days of the perfectly matching dining set.  I  chose these Trattoria side chairs for my seating and added two upholstered chairs for the ends.

LIGHTING UPDATE

My light fixtures were a tad dated and just didn’t work with the new look I was going for.

The shiney metal chandelier added a nice juxtaposition with the tables’ dark woods and harmonized with the 4 metal chairs.  While similar ones can be found at Ballard Designs, I found this one at our local Lowes.

UPDATE YOUR PENDANTS

If there are pendants in your kitchen, consider updating those too.  While the pendants don’t need to match, do make sure the finishes blend nicely.  Depending on the type of fixtures you have, you may be able to update the shades, as I have done here.DSC_1178

These small changes created the perfect refresh for my kitchen.  Can you achieve stunning results with a conservative budget?  Yes you can. IMG_5728

I saved a bundle by comparison shopping and  assembling the table and chairs.  I did have my chandelier professionally installed, but if you are up for the challenge, you can learn how to install a light fixture here
