COLOR CRUSH: IS ORANGE A GOOD COLOR FOR A BOYS ROOM?
You bet it is! I had coffee with a fellow solopreneur the other day who mentioned that her 10 year old son wanted to decorate his room in orange. The last time his room was updated, was when he was a toddler and she felt it was time to make his room more grown up. Don’t judge. We are all busy people :).
Her first thought was orange? Really? It’s common for us to think of orange as this very bright, energetic hue, but I love using orange when it’s muted, with deeper, cozy tones.
Let’s see how we can make orange work
FIRST LET YOUR KIDS BE INVOLVED
I think it’s a great idea to allow kids to choose their favorite color for their room. We may not agree with the choice, but we can find a way to make it work. It empowers our kids and validates their interest.
CHOOSE RICH MUTED TONES
We found this Cozy rug at Wayfair. The deep saturated tones will enhance a bedroom and increase it’s cozy factor.
PAINT DECORATIVE STRIPES ON THE WALL
Instead of painting the entire space in orange, try decorative stripes against a neutral wall color for added interest Inspiration from Pinterest
ADD CANVAS ART WITH A TOUCH OF ORANGE
Canvas Art and accents are a subtle way to add orange without it feeling overwhelming in the space.
We found this cool piece at Joss and Main, but you can also try your hand at painting one yourself.
PILLOWS ARE AN EASY AND AFFORDABLE WAY TO ADD ORANGE
A GRAY OR NEUTRAL WALL COLOR WILL ENHANCE ORANGE ACCENTS
Adding a neutral paint on the walls like this gray, will anchor and balance the richness of orange.
