Eco-friendly projects have never been as popular as they are today, and they are expected to become a norm in the future. And even though green investments can cost a sizable chunk of money, they pay off manyfold in the long run. Even minimal changes can turn your home into a greener place. Here’s how you too can create an eco-friendly home.

Start with those bulbs

Old bulbs that use a huge amount of electricity should really be forgotten and left in the past. Getting LED or CFL light bulbs is really a minimal investment in both money and time, so don’t hesitate to replace bulbs in all of your rooms. And don’t forget to turn off the lights after you leave the room!

Get help from professionals

However, if you’re planning to build a home from scratch, you can get informed about eco-friendly building solutions and materials for your house. For example, my husband and I are going to start building our new home in May and we have had meetings with architecture firms from Melbourne which will make sure we get a top-quality and energy-efficient house. You can do the same. Also, if you’re planning to renovate your home, make sure that your contractors don’t throw away the old materials right away. There are pieces that can always be reused, repurposed and recycled.

What about the heating?

One of the main consumers of energy, especially during the cold winter days, is heating, of course. In order to ensure only minimal energy waste, make sure to invest in good insulation. You could also consider installing heated floors. They’re energy-efficient and especially practical in small spaces and in the bathroom, plus they feel so luxurious.  Another thing you can do is to put draperies on the windows and carpets on the floors. They will provide additional insulation and serve as beautiful decorative pieces as well.

Lovely eco furniture

If you’re planning to replace some furniture, check out some eco-friendly options such as recycled sofas, tables or cabinets. You’ll be surprised how amazing these pieces can look! On the other hand, you can take up DIY projects and refresh your old pieces with a splash of color, replace some broken and damaged elements or make a new frame for your artwork. Buying new things is not the only option!

Go for a green clean

Take a good look at your cabinet with cleaning products and read the label. So many harmful chemicals and toxins… So, find some eco-friendly options or look for tutorials on how to make homemade cleaning products. They are a much better option for you and the environment, and often they even work and smell better!

Read the labels

Next time you’re buying new appliances, look for those with the Energy Star label. These products are approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and proved to be energy-efficient. They will offer you top performance, quality and amazing design while also saving you money on your utility bill.

So, hop on the green train and create a stylish eco-friendly home today. The benefits for you and the environment will be huge and you’ll never want to go back!
