When decorating their home, lots of people have been opting for modern design in the past decade or so, but a great number of them are currently turning the other way and discovering the beauty of a more traditional approach. Embracing its rich texture, smooth surfaces and classic colors might not seem like everyone’s cup of tea, but you can’t deny that the traditional design looks visually attractive and has a certain sense of style. Therefore, here’s why it’s so popular this year and how you too can incorporate it into your home as well.

 The reasons for a comeback

In order to understand this great comeback of traditional design, let’s t first identify what was faulty in the previous design styles that were dominating the market. Modern and contemporary design was all about freedom, expression of your inner self, lots and lots of colors, and shapes that were wild, chaotic and unordinary. Traditional style is quite far from that, and if you decide to decorate your living space in such a way, you’ll be looking at a lot of clean lines, soothing colors, ordered furniture and classic pieces that go well with each other.

This style is simple, yet highly effective, but, most importantly, it’s elegant, luxurious and visually appealing, which makes it suitable for many people. And when all of these aspects are put together, you can easily see why this traditional decorating style is so popular nowadays, so start exploring how you too can bring it into your home as well.

Calming wall colors

As opposed to eclectic and extravagant color choices of certain decorating styles, a traditional approach is all about simple colors and standard color combinations on the walls that can show your guests you’re a traditional person who likes order and elegance. This basically means tones such as beige, light gray, lime, bronze and – quite surprisingly – white are always popular. These colors display class and simplicity, and that’s what you’re aiming at with a traditional style.

Moreover, these are the shades that go well with basically any furniture you choose, yet you still need to be quite careful when mixing and matching colors. Traditional furniture is usually stripped down to two or three colors, so be sure one of these matche your walls.

Elegant flooring

There’s nothing more elegant than traditional flooring and if you manage to lay it down properly, it’s going to make you proud and all your visitors jealous. There are quite a few options you could choose from, but it goes without saying that terrazzo is a great option to make when it comes to materials, particularly if you want to convey a sense of style and luxury.

This material has been in use for thousands of years and it’s made with material like glass, mirror chippings and stone. They can be found in all those classic Venetian buildings you love seeing in movies. They’re not just durable and stylish, but also quite adaptive and offer a wide range of color combinations, which is why it’s so easy to combine them with any type of furniture you choose and basically any wall color you prefer. In the end, opting for elegant terrazzo flooring means you know a thing or two about interior design and this is the element that’s going to take your home to a whole new level.

Refurbishing and reupholstering

Elegant furniture is the centerpiece of a traditional home, but what if you can’t find or afford those classic sofas and chairs? If that’s the case, you need to think outside the box and consider refurbishing and reupholstering your old furniture by equipping it with some new fabric. Floral prints, simple lines, two or three colors and a classic look are the elements of your traditional-looking furniture, so all you need to do is find the right fabric and you’re good to go. The best thing about this idea is that you can handle everything on your own and still get great results even if you’re not an expert.

Some of the other elements of a traditional style every modern home should have include classic ornaments, huge gilded mirrors, full-length curtains and marble mantels, so make sure you incorporate these into your home as soon as possible!
