How to Make Your Holiday Sparkle

Want to add “SPARKLE” to your home?  Marissa shows us how.

It’s that time of year again when the holidays are quickly approaching and you need to make your home look great for all the family and friends you have coming over. We have Christmas at my parent’s house and even though our family is not very big, it still looks great for the holidays! Here are a few easy tips to making your home “sparkle” this holiday season:

1. Many times it seems like it is impossible to have the time and patience to put up string lights, but putting a few strands in the right spots can make all the difference. It all depends upon how your home is set up… you decide what looks good! Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Wrap lights around your banister to brighten up the stairs.

Put some lights on the mantel or around the fireplace.

Hang some icicle lights from the window. Adding stars in your windows also adds a nice touch, like in the photo above from my parent’s house. (The stars also look great on the front door!)

2. Declutter your space. See Brian’s blog post for tips to declutter. This may seem obvious, but make sure you clean up before your guests arrive! Making sure your house looks organized can really make a big difference in its appearance.

Don’t let your home look like the picture above!

Try something simple, like the photo of my aunt’s dining room above.

3. Give guests a friendly greeting by having this year’s Christmas cards by the door when they walk in. Then save the ones you absolutely love and use them for decorations next year! See Caitlin’s post for great tips on how to re-use last year’s Christmas cards.

4. Make your own ornaments! What better way to add sparkle to your home than a homemade craft! Check out The Creative Mama… it gives you all the details on the how-to.

5. Glam up the front door. Add some garland, a holiday-themed plant, some ribbon, or anything else you think of. Don’t forget the wreath! See my previous wreath post for some ideas.
