New Year. New Look. (For Your Home That Is!)
Along with the New Year’s parties and time off to spend with the ones you love, comes New Year’s resolutions. In terms of style, it’s the time where everyone is ready for a new look. Maybe it’s a new hairstyle or a new wardrobe… the same thing applies in terms of your home.
So, what’s your New Year’s resolution? What are you going to do to your home in 2012, that’s different from 2011? Don’t know yet? You have time! I’ve put together a list of interior design trends for 2012 that should help get you thinking.
The overall trend for interior design in 2012 is for your space to feel comfortable, personal and chic. In order to make this come to life, you’ll have to think outside the box. In 2012, experiment with pairing colors, textures and materials that you haven’t thought of before.
Color:
Bold, bright colors are back! Combine emerald, ruby, amethyst, sapphire, golden yellow tones, exotic corals and vivid turquoise with neutral classics like cream, brown, silver and ivory.
Textures:
Try velvet and brick together as well as silk and wool, even stainless steel and wood to create luxurious contrast. As far as your decor accessories, keep the contrast going by mixing natural stone and shiny plastic for a charming feel.
Themes:
Be inspired by nature and culture. Bamboo floors, natural stones, blues and greens and loosely woven fabrics all give off a natural vibe.
Global decor is going to be big as well. Don’t be afraid to mix and match styles from different nations (African pillows with Morrocan style coffee tables in your living room, perhaps?).
