Don’t you hate it when you take your decorations down from the holidays and discover that your window screen is torn?  It was this time last year that I discovered a torn screen after removing my holiday wreath from its window.  After replacing the fiberglass mesh, I decided to find a new use for the damaged screen.   Take a look.

Here’s the tear in the screen.  I  used a utility knife to remove it from the frame.Almost done. The damaged part of the screen remains on the bottom portion.
I cut off the part that was clear of any damage to use for my project. I assembled the tools needed for the project.  The screen, picture frames, spray paint, scissors, fabric, and a staple gun. Here I’m Using the glass as a template to cut fabric (used as a backdrop) for the decorative frames.Cut around the perimeter of the glass template leaving 1/4″ to wrap around the glass and fabric.

Here’s what they look like assembled. Place the cut fabric on top of the glass, wrap the screen around both pieces (the glass and fabric) Once the frame is assembled it will hold everything in place.  Trim any excessOnce you attach the earrings you’ve got easy access and a stylish way to display your collection.Need a larger frame? Try stapling the mesh to the back of a large frame.

Have fun with it. Embellish it. Spray paint it or both. And then find the perfect spot in your room to hang it. Do you have cool uses for repurposing a torn window screen?  How about tips for displaying jewelry?  if you do we’d love for you to share.

If you remove your holiday decorations and discover a torn window screen, don’t throw it away.  Repurpose it.  Need tips on how to repair a window screen?  Click this link.  Tips on how to repair a window screen.
