I’m not sure what it is, but I have this “thing” for headboards.  Since the bed is usually the focal point in a bedroom why not play it up!  Here are some creative ideas to add a “Wow factor” to that space behind your bed.

These upholstered squares are a cinch to make. With plywood, batting( or foam), fabric and a staple gun you can have at it.  This Chalkboard painted wall is framed out with a medallion.

Removable wall art is ideal for guest rooms, teen rooms, condos, seasonal decor etc.  This is a nice spring/summer motif.  It can easily be changed in a snap.

Even though this bed has a headboard , this vertical treatment lengthens the room and adds a textural element to the space. The green graphic fabric breaks up the monochromatic tones in this room.

The combination of folding screens with soft lighting create an inviting space.

Here’s another creative way to use blackboard paint. Kids would love this.

What a romantic space.  An oversized mirror is a great addition to a small room.

For a rustic and super inexpensive(free) headboard try using a pallet.  You can find them near most loading docks.

DIY TIPS

  • Select your wood. Lowes will cut the size you need
  • Purchase foam from your local fabric store. Make sure it’s 1/2 larger than your wood (this will give you softer/rounded edges)
  • Use Spray adhesive to attach the foam to the wood (prevents slipping when you begin stapling.
  • Cover both the board and the foam with your chosen fabric and pull tight as you staple around the perimeter of the wood.
  • You’ll soon have a unique piece to be proud of.

There are so many possibilities with headboards.  Did any resonate with you?  Which one(s)? photo credits are from Pinterest unless otherwise stated.
