Tips On Decorating Kids Rooms – Should They Have a Say?
More and more our kids want to add their own taste or “personal stamp” in their rooms. In fact many of them have very strong opinions of what they like and do’t like.
I met with a client today who’s 8 year old daughter wants her walls to be purple, green and yellow. So she is who inspired this post.
What should you do when you want to decorate with 3 wonderful hues?
One way is to select two of the colors as dominant colors (for the walls) and use a 3rd color for your accents. Here we have dominant pink and green with just a touch or two of blue.
Or you can choose one color as your dominant choice and use the other two as accent colors. Blue is clearly the dominant hue here and sets the tone for a relaxing space. Green, and pink are then accented in the area rug and side table.
Here we have dominant green with pops of pink and purple.
Ultimately you may want to just let your hair down and go for three vivid colors on the walls. After all, our kids are kids for such a short period of time. Let them express themselves and have a room that reflects their personality.
A good compromise
Sometimes too many colors just won’t work. Perhaps you’re placing your home on the market and you can’t afford to be too expressive with color.
For a more refined space you may want to stick with neutrals and one pop of color like these rooms.
