Design Plan: Moving From Concept To Reality

I am often asked, what our process looks like for someone interested in updating a single room in their home.  Of the three plans at Ydp, this will usually fall under the  “Refresh your space” or the Total redesign.  Below is an example of a typical process.

  1. We uncover your needs (favorite colors, mood, style etc.)
  2. We take room measurements and make notes of the stationary items in the room (fireplace, windows, doors etc.)
  3. We determine a budget which guides the recommendations for selections.
  4. Once measurements are in place, we’ll recreate your floor plan to scale in both a 2D and 3D concepts with proposed furnishings, lighting, flooring, paint and accessory recommendations.
  5. We will then discuss these recommendations, make necessary revisions and come up with a plan of action.
  6. We cover the project management, and lineup the painters, installers, and all necessary talent to execute the plan.
  7. The final stage is putting all of the pieces of the project together for the final reveal.
  8. This is broadly what the process looks like, however each project has it’s own unique nuances.
  9. If we plan the concept and you implement it, it becomes a DIY plan.
  10. If we create the plan and manage the project from start to finish it becomes a total redo.
  11. The “Refresh your space” plan usually involves working with your existing furniture, yet giving it a fresh new look. This could be through creating a new floor plan, updating upholstery, lighting, flooring and accents.
