Decorating with shades can be fantastic! For a crisp look with clean lines, roller shades are a good choice. And boy have they come a long way from the white vinyl shades of yesterday. If you are looking for a new direction for your window treatments, these images may garner some inspiration. For a more modern aesthetic shades are often chosen over formal draperies, swags and curtains. These pink shades are a perfect example of how they can be used for a more contemporary space.

Looking for texture? Bamboo shades are ideal. These are great for sunrooms and casual spaces.
I really love Roman shades, particularly the flat fold Romans. The example below uses two fabrics to create a vertical stripe. Simply done, yet it clearly makes a statement.
For a personal touch try using a template to stencil your family initials on a shade. This idea from Southernliving.com is stately and attractive.

I decided to test drive this project myself using a bed sheet. Instead of fabric glue, I opted to sew a lining to the back to compensate for it’s thin nature.
We’ve got a room in the basement, that no one hangs out in, so I thought I’d try this project out in there. Here’s how it turned out.
This project was inexpensive, easy and perfect for the neglected room in my basement. Perhaps, I will keep on going and give this room the attention it needs. Stay tuned.
