Welcome back bloggers! Here are 8 Tips on How to begin a decorating project. Thinking about starting a project before the summer gets away from you?  Consider these guidelines before you begin.

1.  What is your  budget for the project?  While it can be difficult to come up with a solid number, at least give yourself a range to work with to allow for sales or splurges.  Without a budget or guideline, one is almost sure to over spend.

2.  Keep track of anything and everything that inspires you.  Whether it’s paint colors, fabrics or inspiring rooms, keep a file of these things to refer back to when it’s time to roll out your design plan.  A consistent theme or mood may evolve from your findings,

3.  Measure the space you plan to decorate.  Include windows, doors, hallway openings,  and stationary things like fireplaces or built-ins.   This is important to ensure proper size and scale of furnishings.  And to be sure that your purchase will fit through the doors and/or hallway spaces.

4.  Determine what mood you want to create or the theme you would like to achieve.  This will facilitate the purchasing  process when it’s time to shop your plan;  Keeping you focused and on task.

5.  What’s your target completion date? Without one, your project could get pushed aside, especially for those who suffer from that special disease called procrastination.  Do allow for uncertainties like shipping delays that could result from custom orders.

6. Take pictures of things that inspire you. It could be the colors of a sunset, or the most amazing that you’ve ever seen.  It may be just the “thing” that could jump start your project.

7.  Keep a tape measure with you.  This way when you come across that perfect furniture piece, you won’t have to wonder if it’s too small or large for your space.

8.  Create a floor plan using a template to take the guess work out of furniture arranging.    Search Google for free furniture templates or try a few local furniture sites like Havertys or ikea.
