There are no rules in fashion. That motto rings true with one of fashion’s latest trends: mixed prints. When done right, mixing your stripes with florals or cheetah print with plaid can actually look flattering and stylish! The same thing can be done with your bedding. Try mixing not only prints, but colors, and textures as well.

Don’t you love the colors in this? What makes all of these crazy prints and patterns work well together, is the fact that they are in the same color family. Be sure to keep that in mind when you’re putting together your own unique look.

Once you have your bedding together, pick out a few accessories that will accent the colors or shapes on your bed. Notice how the table brings out the other shades of blue in the comforter and headboard, and the lamp accents the circular aspect the pillows and sheets give off.

One last tip, since you’re buying the layers separately, don’t be afraid to mix high and low end pieces. Maybe you’ll find a few awesome pillows at a thrift store, but you decide to purchase the sheets at Pier One.

I think it’s more fun to mix and match bedding. Instead of buying a set of already determined colors and style, you get to choose! The illustration that keeps coming to mind is how you would dress yourself. You don’t go to the store and buy a package with the whole outfit already pieced together– you buy everything separately and create your own outfit.

    Wow, I love the bed against the distressed wood wall. That’s because I would love to have a nice room, but Willy would rather have a shoot-’em-up Western style room with guns hanging all over the walls! Yuck! But at least now this gives me a nice idea for a compromise.
