Fabric book covers are a great way to unify your books or give select ones a special touch.  My daughter created some for her dad using leftover fabric pieces we had lying around.  Read her post below.

For my dad’s birthday a few weeks ago, my mom thought it’d be a creative idea to use fabric samples to dress some of the books my dad has written and published.

Conveniently, I had recently finished a beginner’s sewing class, so this would be a way to “test my skills.”

We gathered together the fabrics we wanted to use and fit them around the books to make sure they’d fit– and they did! Next, it was time to find a set of directions that showed us how to actually create the book covers. These are the directions I followed.

After literally hours upon hours of sewing (if you’re not a beginner like me, it should  take less than an hour depeding on how many books you have to do) I finally finished the book covers.

Not all of them were perfect, but I was relieved to be done! One final step I did take though, was press the edges so they would stay better. And of course I tied the books together with twine to give it a finishing touch– they were ready for gift giving!

My dad loved them! He displayed them around the house for a while (refusing to take off the twine) and now they’re front and center in his office. The hours of sweat and tears hunched over the sewing machine were worth it…

As for decorating…
